File Requirements
Prepare your files correctly to ensure the best possible print quality.
⚠️ File quality is the customer's responsibility
DTF Provider prints files exactly as received. We are not responsible for print quality issues that result from low-resolution artwork, incorrect backgrounds, stray pixels, or improperly prepared files. Review all requirements below before submitting your order.
Required File Specs
PNG is preferred. PDF is accepted for upload orders. JPEG files are not recommended as they do not support transparency.
Set at actual print size. 150 DPI may be acceptable for very large prints. 72 or 96 DPI will produce noticeably blurry results.
Fully transparent — no white fill, no solid color background. DTF printing includes a white ink base layer, so any background color in your file will be printed.
Both color modes are accepted. Note that monitor colors and printed colors may vary — we do not guarantee exact color matching.
Background & Transparency
This is the most common cause of print quality issues. Here's what you need to know:
- DTF printing applies white ink underneath your design as a base layer
- If your file has a white or colored background, that background will print
- Semi-transparent pixels at the edges of your design will also pick up DTF powder and may create visible halos, especially on dark garments
- Always check your design on a dark background before uploading — this reveals stray pixels and incomplete background removal
Tip: Open your PNG in Photoshop or any image editor and place a dark gray layer behind your design. Any white fringe, halos, or incomplete background removal will become immediately visible.
File Size & Dimensions
- Set your file dimensions to the actual intended print size — not larger or smaller
- For the Build a Gang Sheet tool, individual designs will be resized within the builder
- For the Upload Gang Sheet tool, set your file to match the exact sheet size you selected
- Do not submit screen screenshots or exports at screen resolution (72–96 DPI)
Common File Mistakes
✗ Screenshot exported at 72 DPI — Always export from your design software at 300 DPI, not screenshot your screen.
✗ White background behind artwork — The white will print. Export as PNG with full transparency.
✗ Semi-transparent edges from incomplete background removal — These pixels will print as gray or color fringe around your design.
✗ JPEG format — JPEGs do not support transparency and may add compression artifacts.
